FPAA National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health for Doctors - Face to Face Intensive
Course description
If you are a doctor (including GPs and GP registrars) who wishes to upskill in reproductive and sexual health using the latest clinical research and an interactive learning method, this course is for you. This intensive blended learning course comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop, assessment and clinical placements.
This nationally recognised course provides current, evidence-based research and practice guidelines to enhance your knowledge, skills and confidence in reproductive and sexual health.

- Current guidelines for STI screening including diagnosis and management
- Unintended pregnancy options
- Working with diverse groups including adolescents and people living with disability
- Updates on the National Cervical Screening Program
- Menopause

- Other topics in the area of reproductive and sexual health
Who should attend?
Doctors (including GPs and GP registrars) who wish to expand their knowledge and clinical skills in a range of topics on reproductive and sexual health.
Course structure
This intensive, fast-paced blended learning course comprises pre-workshop online learning, a practical and interactive two-day face-to-face workshop, online assessment as well as clinical placement which includes competency sign-off.
Pre-workshop activities
Completion of relevant online learning about which includes pre-reading and viewing of lectures online. This learning will take approximately 16 hours to complete.
Completion of a predisposing activity (RACGP requirement) prior to attendance.
Participants must have a theory and practical Implanon certificate before commencing clinical placement. Participants who do not hold this certification are required to enrol into the Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Insertion and Removal Training - Face to Face Assessment. Participants should enrol into the course instance of the face-to-face workshop date below.
Face-to-face workshop
Interactive learning and discussion as well as practical skill session focusing on key skills in history taking, cervical screening, common andrology and contraceptives across two days.
A Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Insertion and Removal Training - Face to Face Assessment session will occur at the end of day 1 of the face-to-face workshop for participants who require certification.
Post workshop activities
Completion of online learning (approximately 16 hours) and completion of an online exam and online role play assessment.
Clinical placement
Participants must complete approximately 32 hours of clinical placement which includes competency sign-off across our clinics under the guidance of our expert clinical instructors.
Course overview
Course start date: Tuesday 1 April 2025 (online learning in Moodle)
Face-to-face workshop: Monday 5 May and Tuesday 6 May 2025 (Newington)
Assessment period: Monday 2 June – Sunday 15 June 2025 (online)
Clinical placement: Commencing after the assessment period
Eligibility / Prerequisite
Doctors will need to:
- Hold current unconditional registration with AHPRA
- Have 12 months post-registration experience
- Hold or obtain a theory and practical Implanon certificate before commencing clinical placement
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, participants are expected to participate in all activities, including:
- Completion of a predisposing activity and a reinforcing activity (RACGP requirement)
- Attend the two-day face-to-face workshop
- Completion of the online course work before being eligible to undertake the written exam and role play assessment
- Completion of a written exam and role play assessment
- Attend a clinical placement approximately 32 hours in duration
- Demonstrate core competency using the competency record book
