Let's Talk: Best Practice in Sexuality and Sexual Health Education

Course description

This session builds the knowledge and capacity of school teachers, wellbeing staff and educators of best practice in sexuality and sexual health education in secondary schools.

Educators develop their knowledge of the guiding principles of sexuality and sexual health education and become familiar with new guidance documents that support this education in schools. The document also provide guidance for schools in effectively working with parents and carers in a whole-of-community approach.

Upon completion of the course, educators will be able to:

  • locate and use the new Best Practice and Guidance Documents
  • state the importance of a whole-of-community approach to sexuality and sexual health education
  • describe strategies for a whole-of-community approach
  • consider the application of a whole-of-community approach within their own position, school, and community contexts

Who should attend?

  • Principals, Deputy Principals, and other School Leaders
  • PDHPE teachers and coordinators
  • Staff in wellbeing or support roles such as school counsellors and year advisors
  • Teachers of year 7 - 12
  • Life Ready presenters
  • Casual teachers and pre-service teachers
  • Other educators working with high school aged young people
